Breathing techniques- breathing in and out very slowly with my eyes closed and visualization of a far away fantasy place- in a quiet, soft lit room with no distractions…that is how I meditate…sometimes I do it in bed at night, helps me relax…and if I have to, I can take myself to “my place” in the middle of the afternoon- if I am stressed enough! Meditation rocks- but it takes a while to master getting in the zone!
Hold a mala–prayer beads– in your hand(s) and say a mantra, moving one bead on the mala over per mantra. A mantra can be anything from saying “I will think positive” to the most famous Buddhist mantra, “Oh mani padme hum”. The mala allows focus and feeling the beads in your hands calms you.
Sit quietly and focus on your breathing. If another thought comes to mind, simply acknowledge its presence and return to thinking about your breathing as air flows into your lungs and your belly and chest move in and out.
You can also focus on what it is like to be sitting quietly: The temperature of the air, the way your knees feel when bent (and how the right knee feels different than the left knee), the tension in your neck, tongue, shoulders, etc., or the way such tension changes over time.
But doing this is not about the law of attraction. It’s about living in the moment, and doing so even when meditation time is over. There’s a Buddhist saying that you should try to meditate an hour each day. If you don’t have an hour to devote to it, you should meditate 2 hours.
I don’t know anything about new age mumbo jumbo, the law of attraction, and such. But I do know something about clearing one’s mind. It’s called calm down and relax, set aside your worries for a while. We should all do this, and it has nothing to do with any new age philosophy. We all experience anxiety.
Find something to do to occupy your time. Music, TV, quiet time, a card game, stamp collecting, sex, a jigsaw puzzle, whatever it takes to get your mind off of life for a while.
I might suggest a fine cigar, a Sinatra album, and a glass of whiskey. I would do something beyond just sitting a certain way and chanting or holding beads. Invite friends over for wine and cheese.
in yoga, we do a breathing technique during meditation where you alternating closing one nostril then the other with your hand. you cycle this seven times, then start over. it clears your mind extremely fast because you have to focus on which nostril comes next and what number you are on. also, it encourages deep breathing in order to get enough oxygen through only one hole!
Focus on your breathing then imagine that theres this big bright light in front of you (with your eyes close). Dont get frustrated if the light is gone..thats because you loose your concentration. Just breath and try to get that light back again..keep staring at that light.. nothing is in your mind right now but just that light.. try 10-15 minutes first then add more time to it everyday.. good luck
There is no such thing as a “clear mind” unless it is unconcious. Meditation is either a busy mind chanting a worthless sound or staring into a mental image.. but. true meditation is pondering/muttering/repeating over and over a scripture, or Biblical phrase like “Jesus is Lord” and forcing an unruly mind to FOCUS upon the love or peace of God. THEN, and only then will you have an encounter with God. I have tried all ways and NOTHING gives you peace or freedom or understanding or truth but THE way of God’s meditating.., or praying in the Holy Ghost and focusing ONLY on that! The only “right” way to take control away from your mind is to give it to the will of the Holy Spirit.
Ultimately, meditation can clear your mind, but based on what you have said you are aiming for, I would say that what you need is Mental Yoga so that you can master your thoughts and gain the ability to choose your own thoughts and feelings, and even shift your entire state of being. As to the law of attraction, all three of these aspects of your own being (mind, feelings and body) must be addressed for it to be at its most effective. Mental Yoga can get these results fast, and meditation will up the ante. Mental Yoga is based on the same principles as the kind of yoga you’d get in a yoga studio, only it’s applied to the mind, feelings and physical sensation. Mental Yoga is taken up in Module 6 of “Learn Easy Meditation”. (I’ve actually been thinking of doing an audio set on this subject because of the success the Mental Yoga seminars I’ve done.) As to finding a quick and easy way to start a simple meditation practice right away, if you go to http://LearnEasyMeditation.com you can just get the free stuff — as soon as you submit your email address you’ll get it. It’s an easy and pleasant way to get started.
As to gg28’s response, I’d have to say that in general, I think she’s right. But she mentions only a few on the many meditation techniques. The point is this: they are just techniques, and techniques don’t really clear the mind, because anything that requires using your will to force will just keep it going. And there is more to meditation than doing meditation techniques. Her phrase, “The only right way to take control away from your mind is to give it to the will of the Holy Spirit” is absolute true. I don’t know the Greek for “Holy Spirit”, but in Sanskrit it is called “Shakti”.
Dear gg28,
I couldn’t agree more. Your statements, “There is no such thing as a “clear mind” unless it is unconscious,” and “The only ‘right’ way to take control away from your mind is to give it to the will of the Holy Spirit,” are right on target as far as I’m concerned. I would only add two more things (besides the mind) to give to “the will of the Holy Spirit”: the body and the feelings (emotions). This summarizes my own meditation.
Durga Ma
This is anulomaviloma pranayama, and is a great way to relax. It also tends to balance the body once you stop working at it (which, at first, you will probably do for a little while, just to prime the pump, so to speak). Once effort is out of the way, the body will balance, the mind will quiet down, and you’ll relax and find a little peace.
Dear E. F.,
You sound like fun, E. F., but you can skip the Sinatra album. I think you are interested in meditation or you wouldn’t be looking around on the internet and bothering to leave comments. Maybe it’s just that glass of whiskey? Or maybe you just haven’t found the right meditation for you. If you’re truly interested, consider the source: yoga, natural yoga, that is. It is effortless, and frankly, I’ve never had a better time or a greater adventure in my life. I have been completely seduced. Look it up at durgama.com.

Look at a fish tank and try to decipher the message in their swimming.
Chanting the Psalms from the Bible really helps too.
I also occasionally watch Woody Woodpecker with my son, that really helps clear my mind.
